About Ventura County SCORE Chapter
SCORE was established in 1964 as a nationwide, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization to facilitate retired business owners and managers to mentor and assist small business owners. The organization’s 11,000 volunteers operate out of over 320 chapters through the country. The SBA includes SCORE, along with the Small Business Development Centers and Women’s Business Centers, in its triad of technical assistance partners offering mentoring and educational services.
The Ventura County Chapter of SCORE was founded in 1971. It has been an active chapter since that time and currently has more than 60 volunteers. The members of SCORE Ventura County are active and retired successful business owners and managers. Our members volunteer their experience and knowledge to help established business owners and potential business owners achieve success.
Client service is the objective of SCORE Ventura County with a mission to assist small business to be successful. We provide this assistance primarily through two avenues: Face-to-face mentoring and educational workshops and seminars.
SCORE volunteer mentors are dedicated to providing the best possible advice via face-to-face business mentoring or online email counseling, all at no charge to the client. The mentors of SCORE Ventura County are capable and willing to aid in the success of all small businesses throughout Ventura County and Western LA County. We mentor face to face at most Chamber of Commerce's and our Thousand Oaks Small Business Resource Center by appointment. Many mentors go on-site to help businesses as well. An appointment can be arranged by clicking on the “Mentoring” tab at the SCORE Ventura website: www.ventura.score.org.
SCORE Ventura educational workshops are held in various locations throughout the county and are targeted to both those starting a business as well as operators of existing business. The workshops feature experts in topics from the basics to running day to day operations as well as keeping up with the latest in business trends. Check out the current workshop calendar by clicking on the “Local Workshops” tab at the SCORE Ventura website: www.ventura.score.org.
In addition, the chapter is active in many other community projects such as Hispanic Programs Group, Boots2Business training for our military, collaboration with technical assistance partners at the SBA as well as working with local educational institutions.
